Prolog
A horrible beginning
“Take care of her for me, Hinder.” Anna said breathlessly. King Hinder looked down at his dying wife her beautiful blues eyes were a dim reminder of what they once were, lifeless now. She gripped her husbands hand tightly. “Promise me Hinder that you will keep her safe and not send her away.” She begged him.
He shook his head sadly. “I can’t promise you that love. I don’t think I can bear to look at her if something happens to you. She looks so much look you.” He replied sadly nothing like he would have.
She gazed up at him with tears in her eyes. “Please Hinder don’t let Daemon take her away I don’t trust him.” She cried pulling on his hand desperately. King Hinder wiped her tears away gently.
“Anna, please do not cry, she will be cared for.” He assured her but avoided her question. She looked up at him once more his dark hair fell across his face hiding his features.
“Give her Laksha she will take care of her.” She whispered as her breathing became more labored. She looked into his eyes once more as she fought to stay alive. His eyes weren’t the eyes of the man she married his eyes were now dark and uncaring much like the eyes of Daemon.
Queen Anna took one last ragged breath and then lay motionless on the bed her pale skin now an ash gray. King Hinder let his wife’s hand fall to the bed beside her. He stood quickly leaving her lifeless body there and never glancing back. He pulled the door opened and walked briskly into the hall. “DAEMON!” he bellowed. In an instant Daemon was at his side.
“Yes sir?” He asked coolly with a small bow.
“Take the child and that horrid creature to your prison I have no need for her, also send some one to burry the Queen.” He commanded his eyes full of hatred.
“As you wish your majesty.” Daemon replied with a wicked grin that looked out of place on his handsome. King Hinder nodded then stormed down the hall and into his chambers. Daemon walked slowly down the hall stopping a passing servant. “The Queen has past. King Hinder wants her put away quickly before the disease spreads.”
The servant nodded and rushed away to get more servants. Daemon walked swiftly down the hall and stopped in front of Abigail’s room he tapped lightly as he listened to the little girl play quietly. He smiled as she bounded across the room. “Mommy mommy!” she cried her small voice hopeful, as she pulled the door opened.
She stopped short as she stared up at Daemon. “Come with me Abigail you will be staying at my home from now on.” He said. She shook her head as tears streamed down her small face.
“No I want to stay with my Mommy and Daddy!” she screamed as he moved towards her.
“Your Mother is dead, Abigail and your Father doesn’t want you. Now come with me I am the only one willing to take care of you.” He said firmly as the little girl backed away.
“NO!” she screamed as he made a grab for her. She ran in her room slamming the door in his face then hiding under her bed. She crawled further under the huge bed as the door busted open.
“I’m done playing games with you child. Get out here now!” he screamed as he searched the room. Abigail shook with fear as he drew closer to the bed. In one swift movement he knocked the bed into the wall and grabbed her from the floor. Abigail screamed and hit at him. He threw her over his shoulder roughly and carried her down the stairs. A servant stood at the door as he descended from the second floor. “Tie her mother’s beast to the carriage.” He demanded as he hurried out the double doors. The servant rushed to the stables and retrieved the Queens horse. Daemon shoved Abigail into the carriage and jerked the reins from the servant and tied it to the carriage. “Tell King Hinder where he can find her.” He sneered at the servant as he got into the carriage.
Daemons prison
“I want you to capture a Dwarf to care for her until she’s old enough to fulfill my needs.” Daemon told one of his minions. It nodded its head then lumbered out of the prison into the woods. Several hours later it came back with a dwarf woman kicking and screaming slung over its shoulder. It hurried up to Daemon and tossed the small woman at his feet. She squirmed away from them her pain clearly showing on her small face. Daemon reached out and grabbed the woman by the collar of her dress and jerked her forward. “You have been brought here for one reason and one reason only and that is to care of a child until she is old enough to do as I want her to. If you try to run away you will be killed. Understood?” He said hatred seeping from his crimson eyes. The woman shook in his grasp her small body dangling above the ground. She nodded her head weakly. He slapped her across her face. She cried out in pain as a drop of blood fell onto her chin. “You speck when you are spoken to and tell me your name. Now let’s try this again.” He yelled at her.
She blinked her eyes quickly trying to hold back her tears. “Yes sir. I am Emma.” She managed to mumble. He nodded then carried her by her collar down the hall and up a flight of stairs as if she was something disgusting.
“You will be caring for her as if she were your own but she isn’t she belongs to me. Remember that.” He commanded loudly as he stopped in front of a well guarded door. The creatures at the door stepped aside as Daemon hissed at them baring his teeth. Daemon pushed the door open and walked in. “Abigail love where are you?” Daemon called out sweetly.
Sobs filled the quiet room. Daemon rolled his eyes as he looked towards the small bed in the center of the room. “Abigail do not make me tell you to stop crying again. If I do it will be much worse on you. I don’t want your pretty face to be all broken and bruised by the time you are old enough to Wed.” he called out menacingly. At his words the sobs grew to full wails. Daemon tossed Anna onto the ground and stalked over to the bed. “Abigail, come from there right now.” He commanded as he gripped the headboard.
“No!” A small voice exclaimed it was so weak and fragile yet it carried a firm edge. Daemon growled as he threw the bed into the opposite wall the bed fell onto the floor in a heap of splintered wood and feathers. A small girl lay where the bed had been only seconds before. Her dark hair was matted and dirty. Bruises and cuts lined her long slender arms. Daemon grabbed her by her dress and jerked her up from the floor.
“It does you no good to cry child. Your mother is gone and your father to far gone to even care weather you live or die, so you best dry up those tears because your never getting away from me.” He lashed out at the small child dangling from his hand.
He slid his hand under her chin. She turned her head quickly and sank her teeth into his hand. He cried out in pain as he jerked his hand away. He slung the child into the wall and stormed out. She hit the stone wall with a sickening thud then fell onto the floor her body curled into a ball and sobs wrecking her small body. Emma hurried over to her and reached out to push her hair from her face but the little girl cowered away from her touch. “I won’t hurt you child.” Emma called to the girl her voice soft and soothing. Slowly the little girl raised her head and peeked through her hair revealing the piecing blue eyes that could only belong to Queen Anna’s child.
